traditional recipes3Yes, we merged our mum's and grandma's recipes to make the collection of typical yet simple and delicious dishes people have been eating here for generations.

We believe that food makes bonds between people and cultures very easily, understanding ones cooking and eating habits you get to know all sets of info about a person/nation.

We cook daily for our families, so routines we are using are adjusted to everyday life. Therefore you will be able to reproduce the recipes very easily at your home.
Cooking for us is the way to care about our most beloved while using traditional recipes we believe to show respect to our ancestors. Sharing all this with you, visitors to Zagreb, we hope to make you understand Zagreb easier and remember and love it more.

If you wish to learn to cook an extra extravagant/fusion/impossible-to-pronounce dish - this is not a right place for you.

But if you'd like to learn to prepare a delicious meal originated from where you spent your great holiday - congratulations, you're on the best way to accomplish it.

farmers1After exploring Zagreb, we will visit the local farmers' market Dolac, a centrally located place, where we locals buy our food.
Between numerous stalls and picturesque sellers, we are taking you to those small farm owners, who put all their care, love and hard work in every piece they sell.
Purchasing from them we support the local community and also give you excellent healthy and tasty meal. These products feed your soul, not only your body.

We prefer to use only seasonal fresh vegetables, not treated with anything we wouldn't feed our children with ;)
Therefore the menus vary through the year, so we hope you will let us suggest what is best to be prepared at your chosen time.
There are some well-known rules here - what is eaten in Summer, what in Winter and yes, it follows natural circles. The best option is to follow them, just do as we locals are doing.

Sometimes we will surprise you with vegetables we've grown on our own - but let's keep it as a surprise, only at certain times of the year.
What we will definitely use are home-made herbs and spices, we made following traditional routines.

storiesBy the time we get to the cooking you will already be introduced to Zagreb, its streets, squares, and corners during the tour (preferably cycling, but walking can be an option, too). You won't be a stranger anymore.
Once we get to an authentic central Zagreb apartment we will put on our aprons, roll up our sleeves, and begin preparing our feast. Here we come to the moment when tons of fine details, personal stories, and giggling takes place. While chopping, sorting, stirring, soaking delicious smells..., we will share our stories, mutually - hopefully.

About the food we are making, how and why it was done this way before, we'd like to compare it to your tradition and stories.
The easiest way to get to know one's culture is through its food, so we hope to learn some of yours as well.

So, if you are an experienced chef or hardly ever boiled anything but an egg (or not even) - you will have fun with us, learn something new and have a delicious local meal.
